There are chapters on  Early Times, Parish Life, Roads and Transport, Landowners (including the estates of Sorn Castle, Gilmilnscroft, Auchmannoch, and Glenlogan), Ecclesiastical, Education, Industry and Commerce, Agriculture, Recreation, Sons and Daughters and an appendix listing farms and ownership over the years.
Readers will be amazed to discover many things that they did not know about the parish, as well as finding out more about places they did. The parish was at one time covered with coal mines, but there was also a considerable industry in lime smelting in the parish too, and remnants of old limekilns and quarries dot the landscape.
Sorn has its Covenanting associations, and George Wood, a young lad of sixteen years, has the honour of being the last martyr to be killed in Scotland for his Covenanting beliefs.
The local estates have a long history and this book details the various owners and their families over the years.
